The Art of Styling Food - Seminar
Classes are Tailored to Your Needs
Seminars are scheduled in Spring (May) and Fall (September) of each year in Chicago, Illinois. Classes consist of lecture and demonstration. You will complete a hands-on presentation. You must know how to cook before entering class. Culinary classes are not required as a prerequisite, however a basic knowledge of cooking will help you understand the principals behind the art of styling food.
You will learn much more than what is listed in the curriculum and you will receive a thick, comprehensive workbook of techniques and information about styling food. On the last day you will act as an Art Director, Prop and Food Stylist. By using the techniques that have been taught in class, you will prepare a presentation from the list of demonstrated foods. A professional photographer will then photograph your presentation and a CD ROM of your work will be sent to you when it is ready.
The Instructor makes every effort to answer all of your questions pertaining to the curriculum. You are encouraged to participate by offering suggestions and by bringing your portfolio for critique.
Food styling classes are the quickest and most reliable way to learn this coveted art. You will be more valued as an assistant if you have a firm background in styling food. If you are an established Food Stylist, Photographer or Art Director you are sure to learn many new and exciting techniques that will help you on future assignments.
Classes are thorough and students have often returned to study different subjects. Donna's hands-on approach allows students to experience what it is like to do an actual "assignment" under her expert supervision without the pressure of a client being present.
Lodging expenses, airfare, lunches and class project supplies are not included in the registration price. Lunches are taken at local reasonably priced restaurants. Snacks and beverages are provided throughout each day.
SINCE ROOMS ARE SCARCE DURING THIS TIME IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU RESERVE A ROOM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Be sure to view the HOTEL INFORMATION page for suggestions on where to stay. Two airports are located in Chicago...O'Hare International Airport and Midway Airport. O'Hare is closest to Food Art Studio. You will want to rent a car or possibly share a vehicle with another student.
IMPORTANT: Waiver of Liability: Students will be held responsible for any damage they may do to property, props or equipment belonging to the school. Neither Food Art Studio nor Donna Lafferty will be responsible for any personal injury incurred to or by any student during the time spent in class either at Food Art Studio or any facility used by The Art of Styling Food/Donna Lafferty, or while on any field trip or outing of any kind or while riding in any vehicle owned, rented and/or driven by Donna Lafferty or any other designated driver.
